Alpha Lipoic Acid is claimed to be a science-based formulation that features what has been called ‘the ultimate antioxidant’, the Alpha Lipoic Acid. The formula is manufactured by Doctor’s Best, a U.S. based company with a market experience of more than 20 years.

The formula is claimed to defend the body against free radical damage, help maintain healthy blood sugar levels, support healthy cognitive function and brain health, promote healthy aging and recycle other antioxidants such as Vitamin C and Vitamin E.

Free radicals are the result of oxidative stress. They have been demonstrated to potentially damage a significant number of body organs and functions.

Doctor’s Best manufactures dietary supplements for a variety of health conditions. The company claims it is dedicated to offering science-based alternative therapeutic products. Alpha Lipoic Acid is recommended to adults.

Summary

1) What is Alpha Lipoic Acid?

Alpha Lipoic Acid contains 150mg of alpha-lipoic acid. The formula also comes in 300 and 600 mg alternatives. The manufacturer claims the formula does not contain milk, gluten, corn, soy, sugar, sweeteners, starch, egg, wheat, salt, or preservatives.

Alpha-lipoic acid or ALA is a vitamin-like substance present in all body cells. It supports energy production (turning glucose into energy) and helps fight free radical damage.

Alpha Lipoic Acid is both water and fat-soluble, hence it can work throughout the body. Research has focused on investigating its beneficial properties against oxidative stress-related conditions, including memory loss, Alzheimer’s disease, stroke, dementia, Parkinson’s disease, or Huntington’s disease.

ALA is approved and used as a therapy against diabetic neuropathy, a nerve condition that causes nerve pain, weakness, and sensation loss.

Additionally, ALA is essential to ensure the necessary supply of other essential antioxidants, such as Vitamin C, Vitamin E, or Glutathione, which themselves become oxidized when scavenging free radicals.

Side effects of Alpha Lipoic Acid are generally rare and may include skin rash. Safety concerns exist in people with diabetes or low blood sugar and pregnant and nursing women.

Nutrition Info

2) Ingredients of Alpha Lipoic Acid

Alpha Lipoic Acid includes the following ingredients: Alpha Lipoic Acid, Cellulose, Magnesium Stearate (vegetable source), and gelatin (capsule).

3) Does Alpha Lipoic Acid Work and it is Safe?

Alpha Lipoic Acid features the vitamin-like substance Alpha Lipoic Acid most famous for its free radical scavenging properties. Free radicals are highly reactive particles that may damage virtually all other cells in the body.

There are even theories that free radicals cause aging and have also been linked to specific ailments such as Alzheimer’s disease or stroke. Antioxidants, on the other hand, are reducing agents that limit the damage of oxidative stress.

Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) is one such antioxidant, a fatty acid in structure, naturally found in every cell in the body. Its two essential functions are energy production and antioxidant properties.

Alpha Lipoic Acid’s great advantage is that it is soluble in both fat and water, unlike most vitamins soluble in one or the other. It can, therefore, work throughout the body and have potential Effectiveness on all levels.

ALA is also shown to have the property of regenerating other antioxidants in the body, including vitamin C, vitamin E, and Glutathione, replenishing the supply of free-radical fighting molecules.

Although evidence is still preliminary, it appears ALA may help prevent dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, and mild memory impairment and support cognitive function in the elderly. Several animal studies also indicate that ALA helps enhance memory and cognitive function.

The manufacturer recommends taking 1 to 6 capsules of Alpha Lipoic Acid 150mg daily. The supplement is also available in concentrations of 300 and 600mg. According to the manufacturer, the formula does not contain milk, egg, corn, soy, wheat, gluten, sugar, sweeteners, or preservatives.

There are testimonials posted online about Alpha Lipoic Acid. What is being stated includes:

  • I have noticed a change in brain-intensive tasks;
  • Works as advertised;
  • Helped me control my blood sugar swings.

The price is similar to other brands offering a similar formula. The formula is available for purchase from online or local retailers. The manufacturer does not directly sell to consumers.

A section of the manufacturer’s website is dedicated to retailer identification, using the ZIP code.

How To Take

7) How to Take Alpha Lipoic Acid

A limited number of consumer testimonials are posted online; however, most consumers report increased satisfaction with the product. The manufacturer recommends taking 1 to 6 capsules of Alpha Lipoic Acid 150mg daily.

Bottom Line

8) The Bottom Line – “Does it Work?”

Antioxidants play an essential role in the fight against oxidative stress, which may cause severe damage throughout the body.

Some theories place free radical damage at the core of aging processes and the causes for severe health conditions affecting the brain, the heart, and other vital functions and organs.

ALA looks like a promising free radical scavenger, mainly because it is both water and fat-soluble. It can replenish the supply of other antioxidants.

Alpha Lipoic Acid has received positive reviews and is likely to work. For cautionary reasons, you should consult a healthcare provider before starting treatment.

I take Doctor’s Best ALA for overall well-being, not for a particular illness. I have read some impressive things about Alpha Lipoic Acid and I hope it works as advertised.

Mike

This is great! I’m almost 70 and my doctor recommended ALA for my blood sugar levels and for my memory, several doctors recommended it. Doctor’s Best is affordable. I’ll just keep buying!
