Sleep-Tite is marketed as a herbal sleep aid formula which assists the body in initiating and maintaining a deeper sleep. The supplement is designed to help reach deeper stages of sleep (REM or dream sleep), where the body actually relaxes and rests. This way, both mind and body are renewed and rejuvenated.

Among the secondary benefits promoted by the supplement, the manufacturer mentions reduced muscle tension, prevention of headaches caused by daily stress and improvement of the general emotional and physical state.

The manufacturer of Sleep-Tite is Wellness International, a U.S. multilevel marketing company set up in 1992. The company manufactures various health and nutritional products and enjoys a good reputation.

Sleep-Tite is addressed to adults who desire to achieve a healthy sleep cycle and may suffer from different sleep related disorders.

Summary

1) What is Sleep-Tite?

Sleep-Tite is a dietary supplement in the form of a herbal mixture. According to the producer, the product is gluten free and does not contain dairy, yeast, wheat, starch, animal products or artificial flavors.

Many of the herbal extracts listed among the ingredients have been proven effective in treating various sleep related conditions. The Valerian Root, The California poppy, the Chamomile, the Hops, the Skull Cap are all known for their sedative effects.

For instance, California poppy (or Eschscholzia Californica) helps calm mild anxiety and promotes refreshing sleep and relaxation, whereas Hops was recognized by Germany’s Commission E as a remedy against anxiety, restlessness, and sleep disturbances.

Each of them may incur various (mainly mild) side effects and interactions. The manufacturer of Sleep-Tite lists pregnant and nursing women under “Precautions”. While taking the supplement, the use of antidepressants, sedatives, hypnotic medications or Monoamine Oxidase (M.A.O.) Inhibitors is forbidden.

What’s Inside?

2) What’s Inside Sleep-Tite?

Sleep-Tite includes the following ingredients: European Valerian Root (4:1 extract), Celery Seed (4:1 extract), Hops Strobile (4:1 extract), Passion Flower (4:1 extract), California Poppy (5:1 extract), Chamomile Flower (5:1 extract), Chinese Fu Ling (5:1 extract) (Poria Cocos), Jujube seed (5:1 extract), Feverfew (5:1 extract) (aerial parts), Skullcap (aerial parts); Dicalcium Phosphate, Microcrystalline Cellulose, Croscarmellose Sodium, Stearic Acid, Silica, Magnesium Stearate and Sugar Coat (calcium sulfate, sucrose, kaolin, talc, gelatin, shellac, titanium dioxide, anise oil, beeswax and carnauba wax).

3) What Does Sleep-Tite Do?

Sleep Tite is a mixture of 10 different highly effective, all-natural herbal extracts. Passionflower, Kava Kava, California Poppy, Valerian Root and Skullcap have been used for centuries as a remedy for insomnia due to their strong sedative properties.

Celery seed and Hops are believed to produce a generalized calming effect. These two plants are commonly used to support a proper digestion and to promote gastrointestinal and smooth muscle relaxation.

Chamomile is commonly used to “fight” daily stress. This plant, just like the ones from above, is known for its calming properties, but with the added benefit of producing anti-inflammatory effects on joints.
While all these herbs are well tolerated, we have to admit that Kava Kava extract troubles us. This plant has proven to be effective but in large quantities can also be toxic. Furthermore, the use of Kava Kava has been associated with several unwanted side effects.
Sleep Tite is not recommended for children, pregnant women or nursing women. It is advised to talk with your doctor before using this formula. Do not take this product if using Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOI). Sleep Tite has been associated with several side effects, including drowsiness.

Verdict

8) Our Verdict on Sleep-Tite

Sleep-Tit advertises a non-addicting herbal sleep remedy for achieving a deeper, rejuvenating sleep without the use and discomfort caused artificially synthesized hormones. According to the manufacturer, the supplement is a blend of 10 herbs, highly effective in sleep related conditions. Although a simple research may in fact reveal the herbs posses sedative effects (among many other benefits in most cases), no empirical evidence is brought however to support the claims.

The manufacturer mentions some Sleep-Tite side effects, which include drowsiness, therefore it is not recommended to use the product with alcohol or while operating a vehicle or other machinery. Also, there is a list of precautions and interactions that should be acknowledged prior to starting treatment. As in case of all supplements, we recommend specialized medical advice before starting treatment.
