Magtein® (Magnesium L-Threonate) is a form of Magnesium (Mg) combined with threonic acid. This form of Magnesium is a patented form, designed and manufactured by scientists at MIT for Magtein®. The company claims that this specific form of Magnesium is superior to other forms due to its unique ability to cross the blood-brain barrier and increase Magnesium levels in brain and nerve cells.

Research shows the efficacy of Magnesium L-Threonate in preserving cognitive function in older adults, affecting learning, short and long-term memory, and focus.

Magtein® may be better than other Magnesium supplements if the reason for intake is improving cognitive function. Magnesium L-Threonate, the main ingredient of Magtein®, has been studied to improve synaptogenesis (the formation of synapses, the points of contact where information is transmitted between neurons), potentially contributing to long-term neuron protection which may help alleviate memory loss due to aging.

Research for Magtein® is limited to animal studies, which have shown positive outcomes regarding short and long-term memory and learning abilities. However, more research is needed to have a valid conclusion.

Although not suitable for people with kidney or heart problems, Magtein® is as safe as a standard supplement of Magnesium, such as Magnesium Sulfate or Magnesium Glycinate, which are widely used.
