1) Quick Overview

Selenium contains the trace mineral Selenium in a highly bio-available form. Particularly, Selenium is present in an organically bound natural food form.

Numerous clinical studies conducted on Selenium have proven that it can prevent cell deterioration caused by oxidative stress. Free radicals resulted from oxidation processes may severely weaken cell membranes, and lead to an accelerated aging of cells and inhibiting their normal functioning. Selenium’s antioxidant properties go beyond scavenging free radicals, to potentially replenishing supplies of other antioxidants such as Glutathione. Selenium deficiencies may increase the risk for or facilitate certain diseases such as depression, postpartum depression, personality disorders, memory loss, Alzheimer’s disease, or fatigue.

2) What Are Selenium Ingredients?

Selenium includes the following ingredients: SelenoExcell Selenium (as High Selenium Yeast), gelatin capsule (bovine, gelatin and water).

3) Does Selenium Work?

Selenium contains an essential trace mineral, Selenium. Selenium works in synergy with Vitamin E, a powerful antioxidant naturally found in the body and an essential component of antioxidant enzymes the body manufactures to combat free radical damage. The combination of Vitamin E and Selenium facilitates production of Glutathione, which is another powerful antioxidant.

This role of Selenium has been at the root of several tests that investigated potential benefits on the cognitive function and the brain. Recent studies concluded that the mineral is essential to preserving healthy brain function and preventing age related cognitive decline. Associations have been made between low Selenium levels and Alzheimer’s disease, increased risk of memory loss, impaired memory, mental and physical fatigue, and mood disorders such as postpartum depression, or major depression.

It is recommended that we consume between 55 and 400 micrograms of Selenium each daily. The optimum amount is 200 micrograms a day in order to fully benefit from it. Excess selenium may be toxic and cause, fatigue, hair loss, nail problems and nerve damage.

I have noticed a greater improvement to my thyroid medication when I take Selenium. I think this is great and will continue taking. A friend of mine suffered from hair loss when taking this, but I’ve experienced no side effects whatsoever.

Nice tasting tablet, good price. Plus yeast makes the selenium very bio-available. I have less mood swings ever since taking this.
