Yerba Mate is a tea obtained from the dried leaves and stems of the Yerba mate herb. The formula is manufactured and marketed by Mountain Rose Herbs which claims the plant is shade grown, hence its flavor, color and taste are enhanced compared to the sun grown plants. Yerba Mate contains more than 190 active substances, including antioxidants, vitamins, tannins, polyphenols, saponins, amino-acids and flavonoids.

The main benefits of the formula as advertised by the manufacturer steam from its diuretic properties, fat burning properties, chronotropic and inotropic properties (strengthening the heart) and analeptic abilities (as a stimulant for the nervous system). The plant also exhibits beneficial properties against headaches and fatigue.

Yerba Mate should be used by adults as a tea infusion.

1) Yerba Mate Quick Facts

Yerba Mate is a tea from the leaves of the herb Yerba Mate. The plant is one of the most potent healing beverages, commonly associated in strength and therapeutic benefits to Green Tea.

The plant is originated in South America and is most commonly known for its central nervous system stimulating properties. It contains caffeine and a number of various other nutrients such as antioxidants, polyphenols, vitamins, amino acids, and minerals. As an antioxidant (90% more antioxidants than Green Tea), it has been touted as being a potential treatment against stress symptoms, sleep disorders (insomnia, restless sleep, etc) and certain types of cancer. Some people have reported experiencing mood-elevating effects after using Yerba Mate, however no scientific evidence exists to support these claims. Yerba Mate also increases physical endurance, promotes heart health and assists with weight loss. Supporters of the plant claim the tea helps increase energy, mental focus and clarity and is free of caffeine associated side effects.

Today, the tea is known for numerous benefits: memory, weight loss, digestion, pain relief, and cancer prevention to name just a few. The plant is rich in antioxidants, with 90% more than Green Tea, making it useful in the battle of oxidative stress. Benefits which stem from this property include immune function boost, anti-aging benefits, stress reduction, insomnia relief, and blood detoxification.

The advocates of Yerba Mate claim the combination of vitamins (particularly B Vitamins), minerals and antioxidants in its content helps increase mental performance (clarity, focus, and memory) and protects the nervous system against free radical damage. The herb is also a source of Magnesium, which has potent anti-anxiety properties. Other benefits include heart health, fever, headaches, and arthritis; although very few are supported by actual scientific evidence.

Unfortunately, there are no consumer reviews available on the formula. The manufacturer does not specify the optimum recommended dosage. No side effects or precaution are issued either, although Yerba Mate may cause nausea, headaches, ringing in the ears, or high blood pressure if consumed in large quantities or for long periods of time.

Fantastic product! i much prefer teas to any other medicine, herbal or non-herbal. This gives me energy and helps keep my mind clear the entire day. I drink a cup in the morning and one in the afternoon.

I drink a cup of tea every morning instead of coffee, which made me jittery and nervous. This actually helps me relax, while also keeping me alert and focused. I am very satisfied.
