Somazyme formula is advertised as an enzyme support for the body’s natural ability to break-down molecules and healthy metabolism, supporting a youthful body, healthy pancreas and immune system function while providing the necessary antioxidant support. This formula is one of the many nutritional supplements offered by Lifeplus, an experienced manufacturer in the industry of dietary supplies. The company offers a complete line of products aimed to treat various conditions and support the overall health, addressing the most common health issues.

This formulation can be found under the “Targeted Nutrition” category, the “Cleanse& Digest” subcategory. It is advertised to deliver key nutrients needed for a proper overall function including that of the digestive system. The supplement is claimed as an easy way to supplement the daily enzyme intake. It is based on highly concentrates of animal and plant based protein digesting enzymes (from porcine pancreas, egg white, papaya, apple, etc.). Another active substance is the antioxidant bovine enzyme Superoxide Dismutase or SOD. Other substances, minerals and flavonoids were included to increase the potency of this formula. The product is formulated in the manufacturer’s proprietary base called PhytoZyme, ensuring a total of approximately 30 natural elements that work synergistically to promote optimal enzyme activity.

Somazyme is recommended for adults who are interested in maintaining healthy levels of the protein-based substances, or for those who are known to have a reduced enzyme level to prevent specific affections.

Summary

1) What is Somazyme?

Somazyme is an enzyme-based supplement advertised as a support for the overall health. These chemicals are present in every cell of the living plants and animals. In humans they are responsible for controlling fundamental and complex chemical reactions throughout the body participating in essential bodily functions like breathing and digestion. Enzymes are known to be destroyed through thermic process. The basic symptoms of enzyme deficiency are: indigestion, gas, fatigue, headache, heartburn, disturbed digestion, weight problems or slow recovery.

Enzymes act by breaking down food into smaller compounds and making absorption into the bloodstream possible. They are classified in various classes depending on the type of substance they break down. For example, protease breaks down proteins into amino acids, lipase transforms fats into fatty acids and carbohydrases break down carbohydrates into sugars.

This particular formula includes proteolytic enzymes that help maintain the blood’s normal viscosity by acting on a protein called fibrinogen. Another rather unique compound responsible for breaking down large proteins is the enzyme produced by the Chinese silkworm, Serrapeptase.

What’s Inside?

2) What’s Inside Somazyme?

Somazyme contains the following ingredients: Pancreatin, Bromelain, Cytove proprietary stabilized and buffered enzyme base (Lysozyme HCl, Hesperidin Complex, Lemon Bioflavonoids, Rutin, amino acids (L-Lysine HCl, L-Glutamine, L-Arginine HCl, L-Leucine), and L-Glutathione), Papain (with Sulfite preservative), Trypsin, Dicalcium Phosphate, Stearic Acid, Polyvinylpolypyrrolidone, Croscarmellose Sodium, Superoxide Dismutase, Micro crystal- line Cellulose, Magnesium Citrate, Silica, natural flavor (peppermint, vanilla, and caramel), PhytoZymeŸ proprietary blend (Bromelain, Papain, Alfalfa, parsley, and vegetable and fruit concentrates from blueberry, carrots, broccoli, spinach, cauliflower, kale, asparagus, beet, chili pepper, green bean, pea, sweet potato, cucumber, pumpkin, snow pea, tomato, watercress, zucchini, lima beans, mushroom, banana, cantaloupe, cranberry, guava, lemon, mango, orange, papaya, peach, pineapple and grapefruit), Serrapeptase, Magnesium Stearate, Zinc Sulfate, and Manganese Sulfate.

3) Does Somazyme Work and it is Safe?

Somazyme contains concentrated plant and animal protein-digesting enzymes from porcine pancreas (pancreatin 6X), egg white (lysozyme), papaya (papain), pineapple (bromelain), serrapeptase (from non-animal bacterial fermentation derived from original Chinese silkworm gut enzyme), as well the antioxidant enzyme superoxide dismutase. This mixture is advertised to be able to slow down the aging process and promote wellness.

Somazyme is said to contain enzymes and cofactors that are absorbed in your digestive tract and then used throughout your body to support a wide variety of chemical reactions. The manufacturer states Serrapeptase (an enzyme created by bacteria living in the gut of the silkworm) can promote joint comfort and have anti-inflammatory effects while being free of serious side effects. Clinical research has found conflicting results. Some alternative medicine proponents claim that Serrapeptase is beneficial for pain and inflammation, but other studies state the Effectiveness of this enzyme is not based on firm evidence.

Also, the proteolytic enzymes included in this formula may play a role in the blood clotting mechanism. Fibrin is large, sticky, insoluble protein that is produced when tissue is damaged. The fibrin molecule can increase blood viscosity when it is produced in high amounts. The proteolytic enzymes included in this supplement have been shown to be able to break down this molecule and promote cardiovascular and circulatory health.

The recommended dosage is one tablet, three times per day, preferably on an empty stomach away from meals so that the enzymes are not used in food digestion in the intestines.

Cost

6) Somazyme Cost

Somazyme can only be purchased directly from the manufacturer. You can contact the company directly via their website, or get in touch with one of their representatives.

One bottle contains 120 tablets which should be enough for 40 days. Considering the average price per daily serving, this is an averagely-priced supplement.

Dosing

7) Somazyme Serving Size

Somazyme seems to be a complex formula that acts on various levels to promote normal bodily function in a natural, non-invasive way. However, we cannot evaluate its effectiveness due to lack of testimonials and scientific evidence. The suggested dose is 1 tablet three times per day. For best results the formula should be taken on an empty stomach.

Bottom Line

8) Our Bottom Line

Somazyme offered by Lifeplus is one of the numerous enzyme supplements offered in the form of nutritional supplements. Although this product is classified as a cleanse and digestion product, it is claimed as beneficial for the whole body. The price for a month’s supply, in this case for a bottle, is higher than that of similar acting supplements. However, the composition of this formula is rather unique, due to a proprietary base used within al the manufacturer’s products.
The cold processing technology is another contributor to the rather higher price for Somazyme.
However, some people are allergic to certain types of enzymes (like pork enzymes) or have certain conditions that may be aggravated by the use of enzyme supplements (pancreatic diseases for example). Pregnant and nursing women should not use Somazyme without the consent of a healthcare specialist.

Tanya L.

I bought Somazyme for my husband because he was feeling bloated, experienced stomach pain and headaches. I read that these symptoms are usually associated with enzyme deficiency. He has had these problems before and this type of treatment seemed to be working for him. Well, this formula had immediate effects (after a few days the symptoms were less severe) and now he doesn’t feel any of the discomfort that used to trouble him so much.

Jane

This product was recommended by my physician against my digestive problems which he said were caused by an enzyme deficiency. In addition, the supplement has given me a general sense of well- being.
