Gabatrol is one of the many amino acid-based supplements designed to help people uplift their mood and feel pleasant. Unlike most supplements today that require time to work and for the users to perceive any noteworthy improvements, Gabatrol’s marketing strategy revolves around a quicker working mechanism within 20 minutes from the first dose. According to the manufacturer, finding the right dosage can help users feel a mood-uplifting experience throughout the day, ending with the most restful and refreshing sleep.

Give this Gabatrol review a read to find out more about this supplement and explore the truth behind its claims.

1) What is Gabatrol?

Negative emotions can severely affect your body, thoughts, and behavior. They can increase blood pressure, poor daily eating habits, and fatigue. [1] Hence, it is essential to maintain proper emotional health to help put yourself in the best position to succeed physically and mentally. This is where Gabatrol steps in, according to its manufacturing company called Pure Life.

Gabatrol is an amino acid brain supplement claimed to work fast to calm your mind and boost your mood. Its unique amalgam of ingredients works together to improve brain function and increase GABA, one of the brain’s most important calm and happy neurotransmitters. When your GABA levels are higher, you feel great and think with mental clarity. You’re also more focused and relaxed and can work with greater clarity.[2] [3]

2) The Company Behind Gabatrol

Pure Life is an American dietary supplements manufacturer headquartered in Norwalk, Connecticut. The business was founded by Brian Cunningham, MS, and has over 30 years of experience in environmental health, fitness & mindfulness training, nutrition, and medical & pharmaceutical research. As mentioned on the company’s website, its nutritional formulations have been recommended by many health professionals and two #1 New York Times Best Selling Authors. [4]

Besides Gabatrol, Pure Life has developed several other dietary supplements like GABA Max (alleviates stress and improves focus), Primal-T (testosterone booster), Eden Sleep (promotes deep, restful sleep), Neuropep (supports cognitive function), U4EA-X (promotes relaxation, training, and recovery), and Kanna Bliss (improves mood and boosts energy).

3) Gabatrol Ingredients

Gabatrol includes the following active ingredients:

  • Phenyl-GABA: Commonly known as Phenybut, this is a more effective form of GABA.[5] Research seems to indicate that, unlike regular GABA, Phenyl-GABA can pass the blood-brain barrier in significant amounts.[6] Phenyl-GABA is also called a “smart nutrient” or nootropic for its ability to improve neurological functions. [7] [8] [9]The compound was discovered in Russia in the 1960s and has since been used to treat a wide range of ailments, including PTSD, anxiety, insomnia, and social phobia. It can also be useful for emotional or “binge” eating. [10] [11]
  • L-Theanine: This ingredient can elevate mood and enhance focus and concentration. An amino acid commonly found in tea, L-Theanine, can also cross the blood-brain barrier.[12] L-Theanine has unique psychoactive properties because it can affect numerous biochemical pathways. It has been shown to reduce mental and physical stress and can produce feelings of relaxation. It may also improve cognition and mood.[13] Scientists believe that L-Theanine can produce these effects by increasing the brain’s GABA, dopamine, and serotonin levels. [14] L-Theanine also promotes alpha wave production in the brain, which helps people feel relaxed and positive.
  • L-Tyrosine: This amino acid helps increase the ‘feel-good’ neurotransmitters like dopamine. The effect on mood is more noticeable in humans subjected to stressful conditions. Several studies have found L-Tyrosine useful during sleep deprivation, stress, fatigue, prolonged work, and cold, with reductions in stress-induced weight loss, stress hormone levels, and physical and cognitive performance improvements.[15][16][17] Tyrosine also helps maintain healthy levels of thyroid hormones, which regulate metabolism and fat burning.
  • L-Glycine: This ingredient is a conditionally essential amino acid found abundantly in the body, particularly throughout the central nervous system’s excitable tissues, where it is thought to have a regulating influence. It helps normalize electrical signals across neurons, enhancing and optimizing brain function. [18]
  • Other inactive ingredients include magnesium stearate and vegetarian cellulose.

4) Does Gabatrol Work?

According to Pure Life, Gabatrol optimizes brain function in several ways.

The first method is via GABA (Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid), a naturally occurring amino acid found in food and a potent neurotransmitter in the brain. By enhancing GABA levels, Gabatrol claims to promote relaxation and relief from anxiety and stress. The issue with taking regular GABA is that it can’t efficiently cross into the brain via the blood-brain barrier. However, the new form of GABA used in Gabatrol (Phenyl-GABA) has a unique structure that permits it to cross the blood-brain barrier and increase GABA levels in the brain.

Gabatrol also supports optimal brain chemistry by increasing the other “feel good” neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine. Just as chocolate or wine ingredients work on the brain (chocolate is well known for its mood-enhancing benefits), Gabatrol adopts a similar mechanism of action to help you relax and lower stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline. Elevated levels of these stress hormones can be hazardous and can lead to many health problems.

Side Effects

6) Gabatrol Side Effects

According to Pure Life, all Gabatrol’s ingredients have a GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) rating and have been extensively researched and documented over the past decades. [19] Hence, you are unlikely to experience side effects when taking Gabatrol. When adverse effects do occur, they tend to be mild and are likely to disappear after your body adjusts to the supplement. The most common side effects of using Gabatrol include euphoria, drowsiness, reduced inhibition, and sometimes lethargy and nausea.

Keep in mind that Gabatrol also contains Phenyl-GABA, which might be unsafe for some people.[20] Phenibut can also cause rare side effects, including a hangover effect, dizziness, nausea, poor balance, fatigue, and feelings of electric shocks in the arms and legs. Hence, if you feel any of these side effects or suspect you are at risk, consult a healthcare professional.

Bottom Line

12) The Bottom Line – “Does it Work?”

Overall, Gabatrol looks like a solid brain supplement with some interesting ingredients that may support better cognitive function, improve mood, and reduce stress. The supplement’s formulation is based on several amino acids with proven benefits for the brain. Phenyl-GABA, a more potent form of GABA, is shown to pass the blood-brain barrier significantly better than standard GABA to provide more rapid and effective benefits. Price-wise, the supplement is a bit on the higher end but still remains within the affordable range. Overall, Gabatrol is worth a try.

Just so everyone knows the only drug in this that is working is phenibut.

I had finally kicked Effexor and was feeling great. But noticed I was having occasional anxiety issues. A friend recommended PureLife Gabatrol. Amazing! No waiting for cumulative effects. Instant results. I like that I can take as needed. If I’m having a good day I can skip it. If I find something super stressful happens I can take one or two or three (most I’ve ever taken was three).
It really helps me calm down and focus. And if I take it before bedtime I sleep well.
I highly recommend. It works and it’s not destroying my body like the pharmaceuticals did.
My liver is healing and a healthy life style has put me back on track.

I came across Gabatrol online, it sounded good so I ordered a free sample from their website. But I can\’t say i feel mush of a difference. Probably gonna find a new supplement.

Son takes it and it works fairly well. He still had an anxiety attack and am wondering if I can add ashwagandha to this product? Want to make sure you can mix supplements same as with any medication you have to check out interactions.

Gabatrol has its ups and downs and does require you to take more the more you take it. That being said this product was a complete turn around in life for me. I went from a manic depressed person with alot of horrible life experiences, to a functioning, intellectual, genuinely good spirited person. I LOVE GABATROL. For those of you first timers the first few days aka “the transition” is similar to ecstasy or adderal (first few days). The next few days are harder as you transition. Ie nausea anger etc. But overall if you continue to put it in your body and get through the transition phase this product works great, or at least for me. Smarter faster stronger healthier diet and great sleep. Big thumbs up guys

AMAZING PRODUCT! Was not expecting the result I got – but after trying 2 capsules I did not feel much, so I took one more. Three (3) caps worked like magic for me – very calm, relaxed and happy all day. And at night I had a deep, restful sleep to. It seems to get best results you need to experiment on the right dose.

Although I have had moderate success with this product, the company which makes it is VERY SHADY indeed. Not only do the dosing instructions contradict one another depending on which bottle you buy, but when you try and contact them regarding this problem (via e-mail or phone) there is no one there to respond.

I did some investigating of my own and discovered this ‘company’ is actually run out of a residential home. This in itself may not be a bad thing, but when combined with the fact no one there answers a phone or responds to an e-mail, one might start to view this “company” with a bit of suspicion. To make matters worse they claim Gabatrol is all natural and not habit forming. Neither of these things are true. The main ingredient Phenyl Gaba, also known as Phenibut, is not at all natural and can be as addicting as any benzo your doctor may prescribe. If this seems far fetched just do a Google search, there is plenty of literature out there to support this fact.

So, let’s sum up: Product is OK and may provide you with some relief — but the Phenibut it contains will quickly increase your tolerance to it requiring you to take more and more — and the company itself may very well be a scam of some sort, we can’t know for sure because they won’t respond to even the simplest inquiry. At the very least, they are not to be trusted. Buyer beware.

Gabatrol caused me to have a ringing noise in my left ear that is still there and a very spacey feeling that lasted about 24 hours. I do not recomment this product to anyone.

I got this for my son who has spastic diplegia. Enough of Botox injections and drugs, which did not work!! This product worked from the very first day. He has been taking it for a year and has conquered the spastic attacks totally!! GREAT PRODUCT!!!

I’m in the early stages of peri menopause and have been extremely anxious and uncomfortable which made me irritable and I was recommended this by a nutritionist to help until the other vitamins kicked in. This has helped me above and beyond anything that I could imagine. Within 30 minutes you can start to feel the effects and it doesn’t make you tired. This is going to be my go to from now on when my hormones get crazy.

Gabatrol was recommended to me by Nutrition Depot because I could not sleep all night. I would fall asleep, but not stay asleep. I was amazed that Gabatrol helped me sleep. I did not believe that I had anxiety or stress, but for some reason I could not sleep since I turned mid- to late-sixties – now 72. I just started taking Gabatrol for sleep and it works for me. However, my question is – How many mgs in a capsule of Gabatrol. The bottle does not say. Would I be better off just taking GABA?

Trading is not the best of career choices, especially if you have issues with stress and bottling up frustration. I don’t know about other customers, but it seems that Gabatrol was exactly what I needed to help my mood become more balanced and less responsive to all kinds of negative stimuli.

Stress is everywhere. It’s a part of the modern life. The more we want, the more anxious we became. So people, wake up and stop buying all these useless pills. Try something else like a hobby before starting to destroy your liver.

Maybe my hobby can be posting my self righteous opinions on websites where no one would be interested in my opinion. Save your comments for the 20 cats you live with. And also don’t make comments about liver damage when you obviously don’t have a medical background whatsoever. People don’t come here to see comments from people like you. But I guess this is the only place where someone may actually pay attention to what you have to say…unfortunately, what you have to say really isn’t of value.

That’s a little harsh dude. She has a point – the true long term solutions to conquering  psychological stress and destress ultimately don’t come in a bottle.  But what Poppy doesn’t know is that not all meds are taxing on the liver. I also agree that the natural remedies kava kava, john’s wort, etc. it’s probably just placebo – but hey at least it’s healthier than meds.  What Poppy doesn’t know is that Gabatrol has phenibut in it and that is a drug with real psycho active properties.

This is one of the many brain drugs I took over the last three years. If I were to rank it it would be somewhere in the best twenty percent, but lower than the best ten percent. It’s decent overall, but don’t expect miracles.

As someone looking for the best option, what would you rank in the top 10% for decreasing anxiety or increasing overall well-being/euphoria?
