Atarax is an antihistamine used alone to ease the symptoms of common anxiety and other drugs to treat anxiety resulting from physical illness. The company behind this supplement is Majedo Corporation, located in Katy, Texas.

According to their website, this product is a form of medication used to help with anxiety and allergies. The manufacturer states that “Antihistamines work by reducing the effects of histamine, a chemical the body releases that constricts the air passages in the lungs and causes inflammation throughout the body.

Antihistamines can decrease itching and swelling and dry up secretions from the nose, eyes, and throat.” However, no conclusive clinical studies are presented.

Atarax is available by prescription only and should never be taken by anyone other than the prescribed person.

1) Details on Atarax Ingredients and Uses

Atarax includes the following ingredients: Hydroxyzine, acacia, carnauba wax, dibasic calcium phosphate, gelatin, lactose, magnesium stearate, precipitated calcium carbonate, shellac, sucrose, talc, white wax.

2) Does Atarax Work and it is Safe?

As we have stated above, antihistamines work by decreasing the effects of histamine, a chemical the body releases that narrows air passages in the lungs and contributes to inflammation.

The generic version of Atarax is called Hydroxyzine, and it is believed to be a medication that can assist with short-term nervousness or anxiety. This type of stress usually occurs for patients with an allergic reaction, reducing itching and mild discomfort.

This drug is also given to patients before and after surgery to remain calm, but these are more situational cases.

According to the website, “physicians and patients often prefer Atarax to many depressants for insomnia and daytime anxiety because it is safer, clears out of the system more rapidly than other depressants, and physical dependence does not result.”

The company claims this drug can be an effective sedative, hypnotic, and tranquilizer. Unfortunately, we have to remind our readers that no conclusive studies are available to support these statements. In fact, the information available on this product is extremely limited.

Atarax has been associated with various side effects, including dry mouth, headache, blurred vision, drowsiness, dizziness, hallucinations, tremors, painful urination, seizures, and heart rate changes.

3) Atarax Price

Atarax’s price may vary depending on the retailer. Some retailers offer packages at a reduced price. One bottle of Atarax costs $24.95. Each bottle contains 30 pills, which should be enough for one month of treatment.

However, Atarax is available with a prescription only. It is strongly recommended to do not purchase this product without consulting your doctor first.

Tell your doctor if you can’t afford to pay for Atarax as there may be some program to get a discount that you would be eligible for. Your medical insurance or prescription coverage plan may pay for this medication.

Bottom Line

4) Our Bottom Line

Most drugs taken in excessive amounts can induce an overdose, and Atarax does not make exception here. The most common symptom of an Atarax overdose is excessive calm.

As with any prescription medication, the consumer must weigh the benefits against the potential for detrimental consequences associated with use, overdose, drug interaction, or long-term usage.

Many users may prefer a natural supplement instead of a prescription drug. Natural supplements can be just as effective in providing support for mood and anxiety.
