Touted as one of the most popular hair growth supplements for women on the market, Viviscal Extra Strength is a potentially effective, chemical-free alternative to hair loss issues. Previously owned by Lifes2good, it has now been acquired by Church and Dwight. The founders of the company firmly believe that the only way to consistently grow healthier and thicker hair is through adequate nutrition. Hence, they have introduced a formula that claims to counteract hair loss by offering the necessary vitamins, minerals, and amino acids to the hair.

Free of drugs or harmful chemicals, Lifes2good’s formula is intended to help bring back the follicles to a healthy condition safely and effortlessly. But is it actually worth all the hype? Is it a good idea to invest in this hair loss formula? This review will address these questions by analyzing the Viviscal Extra Strength supplement in detail.

1) What is Viviscal Extra Strength?

Hair is one of the most important features of personality, especially for women. Major hair loss can; therefore, easily ruin a woman’s confidence and self-esteem, forcing her to withdraw from the world. Fortunately, products like Viviscal Extra Strength capsules have been made available to combat hair-related issues without affecting life.

Viviscal Extra Strength supplement is a product of 25 years of research in hair loss by its manufacturing company, Lifes2good. The makers of this supplement believe that major hair loss occurs as a result of shortening in a particular phase of the hair growth cycle. To reverse this abruption, they have formulated Viviscal which claims to work by providing the hair with all the nutrients and minerals it requires.

Unlike other pharmaceuticals or cosmetics intended to stop hair loss, the product manufactured by Lifes2good provides women with a long-term solution that does not have potentially harmful side effects. For those who do not have allergies to fish products, it can be an affordable dietary supplement for the prevention of hair loss. The claimed benefits of Viviscal Extra Strength have been supported by a research trial that concludes it as a beneficial product for hair. The results of this trial were presented at the 7th Annual World Congress for Hair Research in 2013 and supported its role in reducing hair loss only after 3 months of use with a subsequent increase in hair thickness.

2) History of Viviscal Extra Strength

Viviscal Extra Strength supplement was initially launched and manufactured by Lifes2good, a global nutriceutical business established in 1991. It was later acquired by Church & Dwight Co., Inc., a popular U.S.-based company working since 1846, for a sum of $160 million. The new owner produces a variety of products, mainly categorized into two segments: Consumer International products including personal care products, and Consumer Domestic, which includes household products as well.

At present, Church & Dwight owns more than fourteen key brands across the world, which represent around 80% of its revenues. These brands include some renowned names like NAIR, OXICLEAN, TROJAN, ARM & HAMMER, BATISTE, and ZICAM.

They’re also the brand behind VitaFusion, the producers of multivitamin gummies Vitafusion Multivites.

The owners of Church & Dwight realize the importance of maintaining full transparency in terms of ingredients for customers’ peace of mind. They also claim to thoroughly evaluate their products before sending them out to millions of people. The company takes pride in the trust and reputation it has earned from its customers and commits to providing them with sustainably manufactured, safe products.

What’s Inside?

3) What’s Inside Viviscal Extra Strength?

Viviscal Extra Strength includes the following key ingredients:

  • Zinc: It regulates tissue growth and repair while keeping the oil glands around hair follicles working adequately. A deficiency of this nutrient is also a cause of zinc deficiency
  • Biotin: It is a water-soluble B vitamin that helps in the breakdown of carbohydrates, protein, and fat to nourish the hair. The amino acids derived from protein breakdown form the building blocks of hair and strength and nourish it
  • Niacin: As a part of the B vitamin complex, niacin moisturizes the scalp and locks in hydration in the hair strands. As a result, it prevents dandruff and dryness of hair
  • Vitamin C: This ingredient is a powerful antioxidant that improves iron absorption in the blood, leading to faster hair growth
  • AminoMar C: This constitutes a clinically-backed complex derived from key marine protein molecules in addition to Horsetail and Silica extracts. The patented formula is found exclusively in Viviscal and is claimed to promote hair growth
  • Iron: It is an essential mineral with multiple roles inside the body. In addition to making red blood cells, it also ensures to deliver adequate oxygen to the hair follicles so that they can grow properly. Iron supplementation also prevents anemia, a common cause of hair thinning.

4) What Does Viviscal Extra Strength Do?

Viviscal Extra Strength dietary supplement claims to own its nourishing effects (and hair health-boosting benefits) to its exclusive marine complex AminoMar, as well as to several other important ingredients vitamins, and minerals (Biotin, Zinc, Vitamin C, Iron) and Horsetail Extract. Although it is claimed that the supplement has been scientifically proven to nourish thinning hair and promote existing hair growth, we were not able to find a reference to any such study involving the formula.

The core ingredient of the supplement, the AminoMar Marine Complex combines together Shark powder and Mollusc powder. It is not clear to us whether shark powder refers to shark cartilage, but we will assume that is the case. Shark cartilage contains Glucosamine – this is a naturally occurring substance that stimulates the growth of new tissue, especially cartilage. Trials have nonetheless shown that Glucosamine can also stimulate dormant hair follicles. Research is incipient; therefore not much else can be added right now. Then study involving women 21 to 75 years of age with Fitzpatrick skin types I to IV who complained of self-perceived thinning hair but who were in generally good health, revealed visible improvements in the number of hair terminals after 90-180 days of treatment 65% increase.

One of the most important drawbacks of the supplement is it offers 120 mcg of Biotin, lower than the daily recommended dosage for hair growth. Also, the supplement is available in the form of tablets that may not properly dissolve like veggie capsules for instance.

Precautions refer to pregnant and nursing women, as well as people under the age of 18.

I am concerned about the amount of mercury in this product. Should one not consume tuna fish while taking this product as tuna contains Mercury. Also… I noticed more Hairloss than usual in the past weeks since eating more Tuna fish? I was not aware mercury was in Viviscal as not listed and have taken it for over 2 years.
