Neuriva Original is a nootropic formula released in the spring of 2019 by Schiff Nutrition International.
The formula harnesses the properties of two natural ingredients – coffee fruit extract (Neurofactor) and Phosphatidylserine – to fuel six indicators of brain performance: learning, focus, accuracy, memory, concentration, and reasoning.
Along with the supplement, there is also an app (Brain Gym) that users can download for free to assess and monitor brain performance.

3) Ingredients of Neuriva Original
Neuriva Original includes the following active ingredients:
- Coffee fruit extract (Coffea arabica) 100 mg
- Phosphatidylserine 100 mg
Other ingredients include: rice bran, hypromellose carrageenan, titanium dioxide, pectin, microcrystalline cellulose, and silicon dioxide.
Soy-derived Phosphatidylserine is a supplement that has received some interest as a potential treatment for Alzheimer’s disease and other memory problems.
For people diagnosed with ADHD, Phosphatidylserine has been shown to promote memory and cognition, increase mental focus, relieve stress, and boost mood by reducing cortisol levels. [11]
Neurofactor is a patented extract formulated from the coffee fruit. This decaffeinated compound showed some benefits for increasing the Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) levels, a protein that some feel is critical to help your brain stay mentally sharp as you age.
A clinical study [15] showed that 100 mg doses of Neurofactor effectively boost BDNF levels 143% within 1-hour – much more than the other extracts tested in this study.
While a lot more research is needed, these initial findings are more than encouraging.
4) Neuriva Original Claims
Neuriva Original claimed benefits include:
- Supports six indicators of brain performance – accuracy, focus, memory, learning, concentration, and reasoning;
- Contains Neurofactor, a potent whole fruit extract of the Coffea Arabica extract shown to increase levels of BDNF;
5) Potential Neuriva Original Effects
There aren’t any known side effects of Neuriva Plus that would be considered dangerous.
Typically, you are likely only to experience mild to moderate adverse effects if you exceed the daily recommended dose.
Neuriva Original contains Phosphatidylserine, which is soy-derived. Those who have issues taking soy-products should avoid Neuriva Original.

10) What Users Are Saying
"I'm on my third bottle. I wanted to do a test to see if there really was a difference. I took one pill a day before I went to bed for 60 days, then stopped. Within about two weeks, I began having trouble remembering stuff (short term memory). I am 60; maybe it's old age. All I know is I started retaking it about ten days ago, and there is a VERY noticeable improvement. " [Read full review]

"I have had problems with my memory, focusing on my work from a severe concussion I received from MVA last Dec and I started taking this supplement about a month or so ago, and I have noticed a big difference with memory, but the most significant improvement is in my ability to stay focused on tasks I am working on." ---Mary K. Stephan
"Not for me, but it did work very well at first. I was able to stay more focused and study longer, memorize things faster, but I am a caffeine junky since I am in school full time. I would only recommend this in the morning. I ended up grinding my teeth in my sleep from this but also drink a lot of coffee. Be careful!" [Read full review]

11) Our Verdict on Neuriva Original
The two active ingredients in this formulation have some scientific support for their claimed cognitive enhancing capabilities.
Out of the two, Phosphatidylserine seems to offer the most promise. Several studies found benefits in larger doses, though there is support for Neuriva’s dosing effectiveness.
Neurofactor may boost BDNF, but studies are needed to demonstrate similar results in healthy individuals.
Unlike the Plus variant, Neuriva Original has mixed reviews.
This nootropic looks like a cheaper alternative to Neuriva Plus, which also includes several B-vitamins and twice the amount of coffee fruit extract.
However, it may be a good “entry-level” product for those who don’t want to spend too much on a dietary supplement.
