Summary

1) What is Saw Palmetto?

Saw Palmetto is based on a herbal formulation of ingredients; Saw Palmetto extracts have been used in both traditional and modern medicine to treats various symptoms pertaining to prostate problems, such as inflammation and difficulty urinating.

Research reveals mixed results regarding the effects of saw palmetto extracts, with some meta-studies claiming that the substance is more efficient than placebo, while some tests claim that there have been no actual effects associated with this extract. Recently, this herb has been reintroduced into testing, preliminary results indicating that it is particularly useful in a condition called benign prostatic hyperplasia, a condition that manifests itself through an enlargement of the prostate. This conditions is thought to be caused by a substance called Dihydrotestosterone . Saw palmetto extracts apparently prevents the conversion of testosterone into DHT, preventing the enlargement of the prostate. This also confirms that saw palmetto extracts have little to no effect on cancer-related prostate problems.

What’s Inside?

2) What’s Inside Saw Palmetto?

Saw Palmetto contains: Saw Palmetto fruit extract (Serenoa repens), Fatty acids, Gelatin, Glycerin, and water.

3) Does Saw Palmetto Work?

Saw Palmetto is based on the positive properties of the saw palmetto plant. In addition to that extract, the manufacturer also included fatty acids (136mg per capsule) in the formula.

Saw Palmetto is a herb used in both traditional and modern medicine to promote urinary tract health and prostate health. Researchers have discovered that Saw Palmetto extract is particularly helpful for a condition called benign prostatic hyperplasia (commonly known as BHP), which is a noncancerous enlargement of the prostate that affects nearly 50 percent of all men over the age of 60. BHP causes a narrowing of the outlet of the bladder (the urethra) and increases the frequency of urination and the urine flow rate. Although scientists are not entirely sure, they believe that Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is the substance that causes the enlargement of the prostate. Saw palmetto appears to prevent the conversion of testosterone into DHT, therefore preventing the enlargement of the prostate. Despite what some people tend to believe, saw palmetto had not been proven effective in the prevention or treatment of prostate cancer.

For best results, the manufacturer recommends taking two soft gels daily, preferably with meals.

When my prostrate had begun to make urination difficult (uncomfortable and very slow). I used the Nature Made because I trust their ingredients. It required more than two months before the prostrate reduced size to allow a natural stream. I stopped using it for years, but now I find out it also helps to reduce bathroom visits during the night especially. I now use men’s urinals that sit beside my bed, otherwise, I would get no sleep going to the bathroom. I plan on going through another regimen to see if the numbers decrease.
